Funeral services for James D. “Dump” Blackburn will be held at 11 A.M. , on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Newton County Funeral Home North Chapel with Pastor Becky Smith officiating. Burial will be in Conehatta Methodist Church Cemetery.
Newton County Funeral Home – North Chapel, 9998 Hwy 15 N, Newton, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Blackburn, 73, of Conehatta, died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at University of Birmingham Hosptial in Birmingham, AL.
He was a member at Conehatta Methodist Church until services were discontinued. Then, he tranferred his membership to Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, where he was a faithful member until his death. He was one of the original employees of La-Z-Boy South in Newton. He also served in the Army National Guard, and retired as a switchman from Norfolk Southern Railroad. He enjoyed farming and tending to his horses, and being in the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were favorite past times.
Preceded in death by his wife, Maurice Blackburn, and his parents, Jim & Eulala Thornton Blackburn, survivors include, his daughter: Jami D. (Bill) Herrington of Decatur; his son: Allen Darrell (Anissa) Blackburn of Decatur; his sister: Bettye B. (Roy) Seal of Union and his brother: Allen (Patsy) Blackburn of Raleigh; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren ; and several nieces and nephews
Pallbearers will be Barry Adams, Lynn Ezell, Kenneth Chaney, Eddie Stamper, Wesley Seal and Johnny Munn.
Visitation will be held from 9 A.M. - 10:45 A.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
