James L. Estes

Funeral services for James L. Estes will be held 3 P.M. on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Newton County Funeral Home - North Chapel with Bro. Mark Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 P.M. until 8 P. M. on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the funeral home.

Newton County Funeral Home - North Chapel, 9998 Hwy 15 North, Newton, MS is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Estes, 71, of Decatur, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian.

Mr. Estes was a life long resident of Newton County, a devoted father, husband, uncle, brother, and Christian. He owned and operated Estes Barber Shop in Newton for 37 years. He enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies, most enjoyed giving his time to the children of his community. He was a Dixie Youth Baseball Coach and was known to many as "Coach Estes." Mr. Estes was instrumental in establishing the Dixie Youth Baseball Complex in Decatur and donated many weekends of his time to see that the children of his community would have a place to play his favorite sport. He enjoyed woodworking and restoring antique furniture, hunting, fishing, and raising Quarter horses. He was a co-founder of the Mid Mississippi Beagle Club, and a former member of the Mississippi Army National Guard and a member of Clarke-Venable Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Mattie Boutwell Estes, and his siblings: Clarence, Mable, Billy, Thelma, Bernice, Clora, and Adrian, Mr. James is survived by his wife: Linda H. Estes of Decatur; two sons: Jeffery J. Estes of Pooler, GA and Ben A. (Janet) Estes of Little Rock; two grandsons: Grant and Garrett Estes; one sister: Joan (Gene) Loper of Decatur; two brothers: Curtis Estes of Decatur and Austin Estes of Dothan, AL

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Wanye Clanton and Gene Loper will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clarke- Venable Baptist Church, P.O. Box 308, Decatur, MS 39327, or to a favorite charity.
