Jerry Minter Wade, Sr.
(November 18, 1939 - July 31, 2014)
Jerry Minter Wade, Sr. passed away at his home on the morning of July 31, 2014. He was born on November 18, 1939 in Union, MS. He is survived by wife, Myra Lynn Wade; two sons, Jerry Minter Wade II (Melissa) Jupiter, FL and Paul Alan Wade (Amy) Bogalusa, LA; two daughters, Scottie Wade Bradford (Andy) Metarie, LA and Skyler Alexandra Wade Bogalusa, LA. Sister, Ann Wade Pierce (Ted) Slidell, LA; grandchildren, Ryan Wade, Savanna Wade, Morgan Wade, Amelie Bradford, Alexander Bradford and Willow Silva; stepchildren, Chad Herndon and Mandy Barton. Preceded in death by parents, Edwin Minter Wade and Mildred Holliman Wade Newton and son Peyton Bosworth. Jerry grew up in Newton, MS and graduated from Newton High School, where he lettered in baseball, basketball, football and track & field. After graduation, he attended Mississippi State University and excelled as a running back/wide receiver for four years. In 2003, Jerry was awarded for his outstanding performance in football by the All-American Football Foundation with the “Bill Wade Unsung Hero Award”. He remained an active member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and was recently honored as a 50 year member. Jerry loved MSU with all of his heart and attended any MSU sporting event he could. Pallbearers will be Floyd Wade, Ryan Wade, Hutch Hutchinson, James Carty, Terrell Grindle, John Boleware, John Corraro, and Dr. Ted Hardin. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00pm August 3, 2014 at Newton County Funeral Home South and graveside service at 3:00pm at Union Cemetary. Because of Jerry’s love for Mississippi State, the family requests memorial gifts be sent to the MSU Bulldog Club, P.O. Box 5327, MS State, MS 39762 or Sigma Chi Fraternity, Gamma Upsilon Chapter at Mississippi State.
