Kathryn Jeffree Massey, 95, of Newton, MS, died Friday, December 31, 2010 at Bedford Care in Newton, MS. She was born April 19, 1915 in Dixon Community in Neshoba County near Philadelphia, MS and was a long-time resident of Newton County. She was a mother of six children, and a member of Blue Springs Missionary Baptist Church, Chunky, MS. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, quilting and reading.
Visitation will be at Newton County Funeral Home North, 9998 Highway 15 North, Newton, MS Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 5 to 8 PM. Funeral service will be conducted Monday, January 3, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel at Newton County Funeral Home North with Bro. Lin Chesney officiating and Bro. Benny Buckley, pastor of Blue Springs Missionary Baptist Church assisting. Interment will follow in the Newton County Memorial Gardens beside the funeral home.
Mrs. Massey was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert L. Massey, formerly of hickory, MS. She is survived by six children; two daughters, Francelyn Annette (Ken) Case of Celina, TN and Gloria Janiece Wettingfeld of Belleville, IL; four sons, Herbert Lavon (Elizabeth) Massey of Chunky, MS, Derryl Boyd (Shirley) Massey of Pearl, MS, Larry Eugene (Joyce) Massey of Denim Springs, LA and Aubrey Shelton (Valerie) Massey of Cookeville, TN; 20 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Charles , Timothy, Derryl, Jr., Peter, and Aubrey Massey and great-grandson Damien Massey. Honorary pallbearers are grandson Jamie Massey and nephews, Billy Joe and Doyle Gibbs and Melvin and Ervin Hopkins.
