Lurie D. Thompson, Sr., age 65, of York, Alabama,, was born November 29, 1947 in Butler, Choctaw County, Alabama; the son of Henry & Julia Thompson. Earlier in life he united with the Shiloh CME Church of Lisman, Alabama. Lurie was a long time employee of the American Can/Fort James/James River Corporation in Pennington, Alabama.
Lurie departed this life on June 3, 2013 at 5:45 a.m. in Hill Hospital of Sumter County, York, Alabama.
Service of remembrance is to be held Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Weatherly Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening, (June 7th) from 4-7:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel.
Those left to celebrate his life and to cherish memories include: his daughter, Suzette (Jeffery) Williams of Butler, AL; two grandchildren, SSGT Gary Williams, United States Air Force stationed in Afghanistan and Nahkitah Lorraine Williams, Tuscaloosa, AL; two brothers, Henry Lee Thompson and Thomas Lee Thompson, Chicago, IL; two sisters, Geraldine Agee of Chicago, IL and Mamie Ruth Keeton of New Jersey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, one sister Ora D. Manning, and one son Lurie D. Thompson, Jr. Lurie will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
