Martha Pace May

Funeral services for Martha Pace May will be held at 11 A.M. , on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Newton County Funeral Home - South Chapel with Dr. Leon Everett, Rev. Tommy Tanner and Rev. Jimmy Jones officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. May, 82 of Conehatta, died Sunday, March 17, 2013 at her home. She graduated from Conehatta High School where she enjoyed playing basketball and then attended East Central Junior College. Martha married William Carl May in 1951, living in California, Kansas, and Alabama before settling down in Newton County. She held various jobs including being employed at Boeing Aircraft, Newton Company, La-Z-Boy and Peavey's. As a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher and a choir member for many years. She was a member of the Conehatta Community Club and the Red Hat Society and was voted Community Club Woman of the Year. Her hobbies included travel, painting, gardening, crafts, sewing, and crocheting. Martha had a special ability to make friends and demonstrate her love and concern for people. She was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with a lively sense of humor which she maintained even in times of adversity. Her family was her pride and joy, and she cherished the times she spent with them.

Survivors Include one daughter: Terri and her husband, Larkin Vance of Forest; three sons: Ricky and his wife Carol May of Lawrence; Jerry and his wife Gina May of Little Rock; Jeff and his wife Teresa May of Conehatta; eleven grandchildren: Stephen May and his wife Jennifer of Hattiesburg; Michelle May Gray and her husband Brandon of Decatur; Eric Vance and his wife Kate of Brandon; John May and his wife Ashley of Newton; Scott Vance and his wife Shanna of Meridian; Ashley May Mills and her husband Chris of Madden; Jeremy May of Little Rock; Phillip Vance and his wife Ashley of Starkville; Zachery May of Little Rock; Amy May of Conehatta and Hannah May of Little Rock eleven great-grandchildren: Morgan Gray, Tanner Beck, Alexis Gaines, Abby Gray, Keira Vance, Isabella May, Micah May, Tinley May, Aubree Gray, and Logan Vance; two sisters: Estelle Pace Whipple of Newton and Pat Pace Tatum and her husband Oscar of Conehatta; one brother: Tommy Pace and his wife Pauline of Petal; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her husband: William Carl May; parents: Clarence Hoye and Addie Mae Nester Pace; two brothers: Stanley Pace and Hoye Pace and one grandson: Michael May.

Pallbearers: Stephen May, Brandon Gray, Eric Vance, John May, Scott May, Chris Mills, Jeremy May, Phillip Vance, Zachery May, Garry Pace, and Mike Pace.

Visitation will be held from 5 P.M. - 8 P.M. at Newton County Funeral Home - South on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.

Memorials may be made to the Gideon's International or American Cancer Society.

The family would like to thank the many friends and extended family members who called, visited, or sent food, flowers, and cards during this difficult time. In addition, the family greatly appreciates the kind care and treatment of the Sta-Home Hospice staff.
