Funeral services for Mr. Donald Stewart Thompson, 63, of the Chapel Hill Community will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11 A.M. from the Grace Chapel Assembly of God in Chapel Hill with Rev. Chris Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Stewart Cemetery in Chapel Hill.
Mr. Thompson passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at his residence. He was a retired welder and a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran.
Survivors include Letha Reed Thompson of Chapel Hill, AL; son Dave Thompson (Ashley) of Mobile, AL; daughters Mary Jo Pruett (Oscar) of Butler, AL; Dawn Jennifer Smith (Eric) of Mobile, AL; Dana Josette Thompson of Gilbertown, AL; brother Howard Mason Thompson, Jr. (Brenda) of Mobile, AL; sister Cheryl Boden (Joe) of Texas; Geraldine Scott of Gilbertown and Martha Stafford (Donnie) of Millry, AL; grandchildren Heather Pruett; Joshua Pruett; Gabrielle Frost; Lakyn Frost “Angel Girl”; Brooke Frost “Little Britches”; Jaxson Smith; and Owen Luke Thompson.
Donald married Letha Reed Thompson on April 5, 1969 at Silas First Baptist Church. He joined the U.S. Army on January 11, 1969 and was sent to Vietnam on August 11, 1969. He came home from Vietnam in late August of 1970. He received Christ in November 2007 and was diagnosed with cancer on December 26, 2007.
Pallbearers are Chris Thompson, Chris Pruett, Michael Jenkins, Jeremy Diamond, Javon Diamond, Pete Sellers. Honorary Pallbearers are Mobile Veteran Center, Members of Grace Chapel Assembly of God, Pedro Diamond, Chuck Land, Larry Lucas, and Dale Whittington.
