Mrs. Beatricx P. (Barrett) Jones
Burial services for Beatricx P. (Barrett) Jones will be held Thursday, May 15, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery with Father Francis Cosgrove, pastor for the Catholic Community, officiating. Berry and Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Beatricx, the daughter of the late Jimmie and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Barrett, was a native of Meridian, but resided in Detroit, Michigan.
She received her education in the Meridian Public Schools, attended Bennett College in Greensboro, NC and graduated from Tougaloo College in Tougaloo, MS. She taught school at N.H. Pilot High School in Newton, MS and after moving to Detroit was an inspector for the United States Army Automotive Tank Command in Warren, Michigan until her retirement.
While here in Meridian, "Bea" as she was fondly called, attended the historical First Union Baptist Church with her father. Before her sunset, she was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and used her talents to sing in the choir and serve as an usher.
She loved her family and she loved her church. She leaves to cherish her unconditional love for family and to carry on her legacy, a sister, Willie Mae Toney, Huntsville, AL; nephews, Clifton Barrett II and his wife Barbara, Chicago, IL and Calvin Toney, Huntsville, AL; nieces Crystal Michelle Barrett, Chicago, Charlene and Barbara Kennedy, Evanston, IL; her two favorite cousins, Diane Williams and her husband, Earl, Chicago, and Eris Deanne Jordan, Meridian; Sister-in-law, Christine Barrett, Chicago, friend and neighbor, Joan Cooper; grand nieces and nephews, her life long companion, "Mikey" (her dog), a host of relatives and friends.
