Funeral Services for Emma Reed will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Boykin officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Berry and Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Emma Mattox Reed was born to Jackson and Lonnie Mattox on September 23, 1924. She departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, June 27 at Meridian Community Living Center. Ms Reed was preceded in death by her husband E.S. Reed, her sisters, Katherine Mattox, Cora Sellers and Beatrice Walker and her brothers Samuel Mattox and Jack Mattox. She grew up in Bonita and completed 12th grade at Harris High School.

Emma is survived by sons Charles E. Reed (Lou), Upper Darby, PA; Elius "Sam" Reed, Carbondale, IL; Robert Reed, Meridian and James Reed (Melinda Gail), Jacksonville, N. C. She has one daughter; Jacquelyn Reed Cockfield. She has two living sisters: Annie James of Meridian and Josephine Thomas of San Bernadino, CA and three grandchildren: Dominique Moore, Meridian; Ashley Reed, New York City and Bradley Reed, Jacksonville, N.C.

Addiditional survivors include these nieces and nephews: Stephanie Thomas, Cuba, Ala.; Sara Mattox, Omaha, NE; Sameul Mattox, Jr., Atlanta; Larry and Robert Mattox,; Muskegon, MI; Henry Hall, Meridian; Bryant Mattox, Omaha, NE. Grand nieces and nephews include; Juanita Roach and Debbie Byrant, Atlanta; Aletha Dean, Denver, Co; Billy Byrant, Atlanta, Pamela Section, Las Vegas, Edna Ruth Reed Taylor, Lynwood, IL; Michael Smith, Meridian; Ernestine Holiday, Meridian and Valerie Spikes, Dallas , TX.

Mrs. Reed was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church for more than 50 years and served as a member of the Usher Board and Missionary Society. She retired as a teacher's Assistant with 32 years service from Mississippi Action For Progress (Headstart). Her Christian journry came to an end on Wednesday, June 27, 2012.

Mrs. Reed was an avid homemaker who enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting and gardening. She enjoyed making pies and cakes and giving them to her friends.
She provided meals for many sick and shut-in members of our community.

Mrs. Reed enjoyed traveling to the states of California, Washington, Illinois, Virginia, Ohio and Nebraska during her life time. She enjoyed an excursion to Victoria, Canada also.

Her life is now a beautiful memory, her absence a silent grief. May she rest in God's beautiful garden of sunshine and perfect peace. She left a beautiful memory, a sorrow too great to be told. To those of us who loved and lost her, her memory will never grow old.

Visitation will be Friday, July 6, 2012 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home.
