Myrtie Bell Garvin

Funeral services for Myrtie Bell Garvin will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Newton County Funeral Home South Chapel with Bro. Joe Garvin officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery.

Newton County Funeral Home South, 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Garvin, 93 of Newton, died Friday, May 13, 2011 at Infinity Hospice. She was a native of Newton County and a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church as long as her health permitted, where she was a former Sunday School and Discipleship Training teacher, a choir member, and a deacon's wife. She loved her church and her community, where she and her husband, O.C., Sr., helped organize the Liberty Community Club. She was a 4-H leader, and she was noted for cooking meals for all of the children of the community on Sundays. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed gardening and tending to flowers. Favorite past times were those spent cross stitching and traveling as well as spending time with family and friends.

Survivors Include: Her Daughter: Mary Helen Kellum, Newton; Her Son: Jack (Sue Cole) Garvin, Newton; Her Daughter-in-law: Sue Garvin, Newton; Her Grandchildren: Connie Harvey, Marion Garvin, David Garvin, Lance Garvin, Chad Garvin, Michelle Maske, Jennifer Branson, and Chuck Kellum; 12 Great-Grandchildren 3 Great-Great Grandchildren

She was preceded in death by: Her Husband: O. C. Garvin, Sr.; Her Sons: Jerry Garvin, O.C. Garvin, Jr., and James Garvin; Her Son-In-Law: Charles Kellum; Her Daughter-In-Law: Delores Garvin; Her Parents: Marion and Sarah Elizabeth Pace Tillman; Her Brothers: Clarance Tillman, R.L. Tillman, and Bob Tillman; Her Sisters: Retha Myers, Etoile Edwards, and Edith Harris

Pallbearers will be Lance Garvin, Chad Garvin, David Garvin, Chad Branson, Chuck Kellum, and Michael Maske.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Alan Harvey, Cody Harvey, Dusty Garvin, Darrin Garvin, and Trey Kellum.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Simmie Dee Godwin, 3058 Shelby Rd. Newton, MS 39345.

Visitation will be held from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the fuenral home.
