Phillip J. Whaley
On Saturday, January 22, 2011 Phillip was called to be with his heavenly Father. He was surrounded by his family and friends in the ICU at Anderson s.
Phillip grew up in Meridian and graduated from Meridian High School and attended Meridian Community College. He became interested in music at an early age and formed a band at age 13 with his best friend Joey Ethridge. From there they formed many bands, “Ditch” being the most popular. Over the years he has played with many wonderful musicians, Leon Williams, Chris Sharp, Tommy and Chris Ethridge and Steve Smithson to name a few.
Phillip was a gentle giant who never had an unkind word to say about anyone. He always had a smile and something to make you laugh even when he was sick.
He was preceded in death by his father, Chris C. Whaley, Jr.; his grandparents; and his brother in law, W.O. William R. Davis, Jr.
He is survived by his mother, Jean R. Sanchez; sisters, Vivi Anne Davis, Jean Marie Whaley and Sherry Hayes; Nephews and nieces, Patrick W. Davis and wife Rhonda of Garland, Texas, Kelly A. Williams of Meridian, Shawn E. Smith and husband Johnny of Pensacola, Florida; great nieces and nephews, Shae Spencer and husband Joey of Ft. Hood, Texas, John R. Smith of Pensacola, Katy E. Smith of Meridian, Dylan P. Davis of Lone Oak, Texas and Conner Marie Williams of Meridian; and last but not least great great niece Addison Paige Spencer of Ft. Hood, Texas.
Phillip worked at Peavey Electronics for 29 years before becoming ill. He leaves many friends who knew and loved him, many stories and lots of laughter. A special thanks to the nurses on 4 East and ICU especially Wendy who was with us at the end; and the ones who stood by him and offered endless help and support, June Tinsley, Beth Tennyson, and Jim Fall, and Bruno whom he said healed his soul.
There will be a Celebration of Life for him at the Echo on Saturday, January 29th. Please come and bring stories and pictures and help us celebrate.
