Sammy Wright

Funeral services for Sammy Wright, 77, of Land will be held Friday, July 5, 2013 at 12 Noon from the Chapel of Bumpers Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Turner, Rev. Tommy Campbell, Rev. Scottie Fulcher, and Nephew Allen Todd officiating. A Military Graveside will follow at the Bogueloosa Cemetery in Needham. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. to 12 Noon at the funeral home on Friday.

Mr. Wright passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Willow Trace Nursing Center in Butler. He was a retired journalist for the Los Angeles Times. He also wrote the Sweet Gum Column for the Choctaw Sun Advocate. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and flew for the border patrol.

Survivors include his sister Dorothy Hendley (Henry) of Butler; brothers Harvey Wright (Nancy) of Munford; Lindy Wright (Dora) of Mobile; Herschel Wright (Ann) of Meridian; Randall Wright (Janette) of Mobile; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a special cousin and friend Beth Wright Clark.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wallace L. Wright and Esther Kelley Wright; sisters Louise Todd, Patsy Craig, and Ruthy Allen; brothers Calvin Wright and Jack Wright.

Pallbearers are Allen Todd, Don Wright, Duane Wright, Ryan Hendley, Michael Hendley, Randy Wright, Dale Hendley, Gregg Hendley, Nored Carney, Greg Wright, Ricky Cooper, Roy Cooper, Cubby Sellers, Derek Hendley, Dr. Bob Allen, Dub Ezell, Matthew Stephens, Eric Wright, Alan Zeigler, and Lisa Hendley.
