Thomas L “Rube” Burroughs
Services for Thomas L. “Rube” Burroughs will be held Monday, February 24, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Keith Grubbs, Dr. Wayne Edwards, and Reverend Bill Webb officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burroughs, age 70, of Meridian, died Friday, February 21, 2014 at his home. He was a longtime active member of Midway Baptist Church. Rube was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad and also worked many years at Barham Funeral Home. He was a longtime little league coach at the Phil Hardin Complex. Rube also was a member of Army and Air National Guard, and a former member of Oakland Heights Masons.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Peggy Burroughs of Meridian; son, Lane Burroughs and wife, Susan of Natchitoches, LA; daughters, Tammy Stone and husband, Wes of Lauderdale and Jessica Simpson and husband, Phillip of Collinsville; stepdaughter, Dana P. Gault and husband, Jason of Daphne, AL; stepson, Michael Parker, Jr. and wife Jenny of Southhaven, MS; thirteen grandchildren; sister Harriet “Tootsie” Clark and husband, Oliver of Union, MS; brother, J.R. Burroughs and wife, Peggy of Midlothian, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Hazel Burroughs.
The family request memorials be made to the Gideons.
Pallbearers will be Steve Murray, Jason Watson, Phillip Simpson, Michael Parker, Jr., Scott Murray, Brian Temple, and Dock Boyd.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jackson Burroughs, Eli Simpson, and Luke Simpson.
