Funeral services for Warren Briscoe Brown will be held at 11 A.M., on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Newton County Funeral Home – South with Bro. Wayne Napier and Bro. Damon Williams officiating. Burial will be in Newton Masonic Cemetery. Newton County Funeral Home South, 100 Old Hwy. 15 Loop, Newton, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brown, 77, of Newton, died Monday, January 21, 2013 at his home. He was born in Newton and served in the U.S. Airforce. He moved to Meridian in the late 1950s, and began his career in law enforecement with the Meridian Police Department. He served for 29 years and retired as a Detective Sargeant. He retired back to Newton in 1989. As a youth, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and later, after retirement became a Boy Scout Master for Troop #22 in Newton for twelve years. He and his wife enjoyed motorcycle riding, camping, Jeep riding, and traveling. He also enjoyed woodworking, and remodeling homes. He was a family man and loved his children and grandchildren. He and his beloved wife, Rita were married almost thirty years, and were devoted to each other and all their children. Volunteering was an important part of his service to the community. Church service and serving others was a priority in his life through both churches he attended, Anitoch Southern Methodist in Collinsville, and Newton United Methodist Church.

Survivors Include: his wife: Rita L. Brown of Newton; children: Kinta Thompson and her husband Paul of Madison; Briscoe James and his wife LeDawn of Meridian; Fileesha Chisolm and her husband Toby of Collinsville; Adam Brewer and his wife Denise of Flora; grandchildren: David Thompson, and his fiance’ Tory Rainwater of Jackson; Elliot Thompson and his wife Mallory of Madison; John Collin Thompson of Madison; Elizabeth Thompson of Madison; Nathan Chisolm of Collinsville; Seth Chisolm of Collinsville; Hannah Claire Chisolm of Collinsville; Haley James of Meridian; Mikayla James of Meridian; Ryan Bland of Flora; Thomas Bland of Flora and Morgan Brewer of Flora; one great-grandchild: Matthew Miller Thompson of Madison; siblings: Joseph Brown and his wife Charlotte of Meridian; Carolyn Holloway and her husband Stewart of Brandon; Jimmy Brown and his wife Jean of Navarre Beach, FL; Ann Weatherford and her husband Don of California; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Jerome Douglas & Ruby Anderson Brown and one sister: Lee Brown.

Pallbearers will be Paul Thompson, Toby Chisolm, David Thompson, Elliot Thompson, John Collin Thompson, Nathan Chisolm, and Seth Chisolm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge, 2609 River Road, New Orleans, LA 70121.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 5 P.M. - 8 P.M., and one hour prior to the services at the fuenral home on Wednesday.
