Services for William Tracy Treadaway, Jr. of York will be held at 3 P.M. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Bumpers Funeral Home in York, Alabama with Rev. Garet Aldridge and Rev. Alton Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the York City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Mr. Treadaway, age 88, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at his residence. He was a graduate of Gulf Cost Military Academy in Gulfport, Mississippi, and served in the Seabees in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a retiree of Gulf States Paper Corp. of Demopolis and was an active tree farmer. He was a founding member and elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church in York.
Mr. Treadaway was preceded in death by his parents, William Tracy Treadaway, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Wise Treadaway and his step-mother, Clara Boyd Treadaway; his grandparents, Florencio Raynard Wise and Mary Frances McGowen Wise; a sister, Dolly Jane Treadaway (Newell) Harper, and a brother, Thomas Edward Treadaway; his aunt and uncle and adoptive parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. McDonald; and is son-in-law, Price Tillery.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jean Secrest Treadaway; his daughters, Frances Virginia Turnage and husband Lee of Biloxi, and Traci Jean Tillery of York; a beloved and devoted caregiver, Sandra Wilson; six grandchildren, Jennifer Tillery Wilson and husband Norman of Meridian, Drew Tillery of York, Josh Tillery and wife Casey of York, Gray Turnage and wife Jeannie of Starkville, Virginia Turnage of Jackson, and Mary Graham Turnage Williams and husband Chris of Ocean Springs; eight great-grandchildren, Christina Jenkins, Faith and Caroline Wilson, Copeland and Graham Tillery, Lucy and Bro. Turnage, and Amelia Williams; a sister-in-law, Mary Secrest and a brother-in-law, Rea Secrest; and numerous nieces and nephews.
