The wife of Sen. Roger Wicker, Gayle Wicker, was the guest of honor at a ladies reception Monday night in Meridian.

The event was held at Merrehope and hosted by Mrs. Wicker's friend, Betty Lou Jones.

Sen. Wicker, a Republican, is running to fill the rest of Trent Lott's term. Wicker was appointed by Gov. Haley Barbour after Lott resigned last year.
Former Mississippi governor, Ronnie Musgrove, a Democrat, is also seeking the post.

Gayle Wicker said the more people know about the senator and their family, the better.

"And it has been an opportunity to tell them about my family, and about Roger, and about what he's doing for them," Wicker said.

Mrs. Wicker said her great-grandparents were from Meridian, and her grandmother grew up here.

Roger Wicker is holding a town meeting in Meridian Tuesday evening, starting at 6 p.m., at Union Station. It will focus on the current issues affecting Mississippi and our nation.
