Gov. Haley Barbour isn't saying anything about the affair of South Carolina governor, Mark Sanford. But he's moving forward as the new chair of the National Republican Governors Association.

Barbour took over that position Wednesday after Sanford resigned in the wake of a scandal over his Argentine mistress.

Barbour wouldn't talk about Sanford, but he says the RGA is staying focused on winning more governorships.

"I've been around politics for 40 years and I have always made it a policy that I don't talk about people's personal problems. I don't think it's polite. I don't think it's appropriate and I don't there's anything to be gained from it," said Barbour. "But I will tell you that the Republican Governors Association is very focused. We're going to keep going in the exactly the direction we're going. We're focused on the New Jersey and Virginia governor's races. Both of them are extremely competitive."

Barbour has previously served as chairman of the association. He was serving as vice-chair until Sanford's resignation.
