A local organization met Tuesday night to take a stand against voter fraud.

Meridianteaparty.com has decided to throw its support behind Republican efforts to get a voter ID initiative on the 2011 Mississippi ballot.

Jeppie Barbour, brother of Gov. Haley Barbour, spoke at the meeting. He says the issue is not one-sided.

"We have Democratic political activists who are circulating the petition. We have some Democrat elected officials who have signed the petition," said Jeppie Barbour. "They understand the problem. So this is not the Democrats against the Republicans."

Jeppie Barbour is heading the effort to gather over 100,000 signatures on petitions to put voter ID to a public vote in 2011.

You can get a copy of the petition or sign the petition at GuideOne Insurance downtown, Graphic Printers on Hwy 11/80, or QualityPC of Meridian on Hwy 45. You can also contact the group at http://www.MeridianTeaParty.Com if you have other questions.

It would be nice to know a location that a voter could sign the petition.
