One Student Killed in Campus Shooting at MSU Starkville

Officials with Mississippi State University say a student was shot and killed at a residence hall, prompting a campus-wide alert.

University spokeswoman Maridith Geuder says police received a call about the shooting at Evans Hall around 10 p.m. Saturday. The victim was taken to a hospital where he subsequently died.

Three male suspects fled the building in a blue Crown Victoria, and the university sent several text message alerts to students. As of early Sunday, no arrests had been made and the campus remained under emergency conditions.

The four-story Evans Hall holds about 300 male students and is
located on the north side of campus.

How did the killers get into the dorm. Did another student let them in or the victim. Was this random, doesn't sound like it. This bold murder was a statement. the parents of kids in this dorm should beware. The university is down playing it but hey don't know what happened. It could be aimed at clearing out any unwanted students in the dorm who knows.

I really think it was drug related. He had to have known the killers for them to get that close that easily, and to get out that easily too. Suspicious people don't just waltz into dorm rooms, gun someone down, and then waltz out. It wasn't random.

Should this be considered a hate crime since the victim was shot multiple times vs just once? This wasn't a random act of violence...these guys KNEW what they were going up there for...a senseless act of violence I hope they get caught and punished accordingly....makes me sick

I agree. I have a feeling that this was a drug related killing.

The fact that someone was hunted down like a dog by three grown men is sad, it was unnecessary no matter what the issue between him and the guys were they should have never stepped on that campus and security should always be on top of things when it comes to that many kids attending their school, I'm ashamed of msu right now for no being MORE secure. As for the men that did it....they will get caught I wish we were like Texas and used our death penelty and eye for an eye!!!! If everyone thought race was an issue now lol it's gonna get a lot worse now

@A friend, we do use our death penalty. We just executed 2 men last week.

The murder of the MSU student and the murder of the Jackson State student are equally abhorrent. These senseless killings leave us to wonder how in the world the human condition could have sunk so low. These are sad--and scary times, indeed.

I dont agree with the racist post Im a black american and I hate that this happened to the student no matter what his color of race is! We should all be praying for the family of the victim and the students right now instead of talking nonsense like this!

If the shooter of this young man was at the scene of the crime with the murder weapon BUT told by police that it was all right to just go home because they believed the "self defense" statement made by the shooter before conducting any sort of investigation - then YES... EVERYONE should be outraged!! This situation is not the same as the Sanford one because police have to FIND the suspects. People are outraged because the shooter was allowed to just walk away from the scene on the basis of giving his word and showing signs of an altercation that could have been avoided if he was not an over zealous neighborhood watch person.

The only way to end racism is to stop bringing it up. Why is the race of the victim of any concern? Come on Mississippi get your priorities together. No one , of any race, wants their children to victims, or murderers.

But Ashley, if that happened, what would Jessie, Al, and the rest of the gang do for a living? They'd actually have to get a REAL JOB and be productive instead of divisive! Chances of that happening are, well ... ZERO!

Sheer stupidity of a comment. It should not be about race, it should be about what is right for ALL people. How can this country and world expect to move on and have a future if idiots like you think with a mentally challenged, ignorant mind such as yours? Wow, you must be so proud of your accomplishments, philosophical thoughts, and sense of morality and good judgement, it sure has gotten you so far!
