Children in daycare at Central United Methodist Church continued a caring tradition Friday.
Each year, kids decorate their classrooms and parade in downtown Meridian to raise awareness about childhood cancer. They also raise money to send to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
"I've been here 22 years and we've had three children during that time who have been affected by childhood cancer," said CUMC daycare director, Glenda Thomas. "And they've all been helped in one way or another by St. Jude's research or by the hospital itself. And so when we started it, we started it because of those children who were so close to us. But we've continued it because it's such a wonderful organization and this is a good way for our children to help other children."
Thousands of dollars are raised each year by these pre-K children and their families.
Donations are still being accepted. You may send your check, made out to St. Jude, to the church at 1004 23rd Avenue, Meridian, 39301.
