Newton City Schools has a new superintendent. The Newton Record newspaper reported that Newton native, Mary Kate Garvin was named to the post earlier this week.

Garvin is currently an administrator with Moss Point Public Schools.

The Newton School Board chose Garvin from among five candidates.

Garvin has previously served as a superintendent in the Natchez-Adams county School District. She replaces Raymond Clark, who left the job for a position in Forest.
