The steady march of sleet and snow into area of Mississippi has led to a number of closings, including more than a dozen school districts.
The wintry weather was expected to move east Thursday afternoon, after dumping as much as three inches of snow in southern and central Mississippi, with much improved conditions on Friday.
A winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Periods of light rain, mixed with snow and sleet at times will remain possible over east central Mississippi Thursday, including Meridian and Hattiesburg. Heavier precipitation is expected early Thursday afternoon.
