Students at Mississippi's universities, two-year schools and private colleges are getting a $3 million financial aid boost this fall.
It's the first time in three years that the Mississippi Legislature has increased financial aid.
In July, funding for student aid will total $30.5 million. That's up from $27.5 million last year.
Also on the plus side for Mississippi students is a $50 increase in the federal Pell Grant.
The financial aid help comes after tuition increased 30 percent over a three-year period at Mississippi universities. Room-and-board charges went up and books got more expensive.
Room-and-board fees will increase between two percent and eight percent at Mississippi universities this fall.
