Carver middle school saluted American education week by honoring teachers, tutors and adopt-a-school sponsors.
Carver also recognized students who scored in the top 90% on the Mississippi curriculum test.
"It's important for me to do well in school and do well when I take tests, because there are a lot of goals that I want to accomplish when I grow up," said Angela Chaney.
"I'm trying to prepare to be a lawyer," said Dru Smith. "The teachers, they try as hard as they can to get you to know the things that you need to prepare for the tests."
"I just wanted to do something for the Mississippi students," said Gloria Dozier, assistant manager of Barnhill's, one of Carver's Adopt-a-School sponsors. "For some reason, I feel like children are my calling by God. So that's one of the major reasons why I love dealing with children."
All students were encouraged to be on their best behavior this year, in order to get the most benefit out of the education offered to them.
