Bay Springs Telephone Company awarded scholarships Wednesday, based on its annual essay competition.
Alice McCormick of Sylva Bay Academy won a $3916 D.L. Fail Memorial Scholarship. Her essay on "The Importance of Being an Active Member of the Community" took first place. McCormick plans to major in biology at Vanderbilt University or Mississippi College.
Kully Lynn Woodruff of Stringer Attendance Center placed second and won a $1417 scholarship. She plans to pursue a career in the medical field at the University of Mississippi.
"BSTC is pleased to be able to offer educational support to our local students through this scholarship. It is our hope that young people will use this opportunity to enhance their scholastic careers, their communities, and themselves," said Joseph Fail, president of Bay Springs telephone Company.
