Hundreds of eighth graders got a sneak peak at college life Thursday at Meridian Community College.

Students from Northwest Junior High School in Meridian took part in ''Gear Up Mississippi''.

The program is designed to encourage young people to go to college.

"I think that some of them maybe don't know what's in store for them if they stay in school," said MCC's public relations director, Sandy Bynum. "So we want to give them the opportunity to look at college life."

"Gear Up Mississippi" is a statewide program that is partnered with 34 school districts throughout Mississippi.
