Police Charge Suspect in Theft of Tahoe, Wildcat Costume

Meridian police detectives have charged a suspect in connection with the theft of a vehicle, which contained the Meridian High School mascot costume.

20-year-old Stanley J. Neal, III, of Meridian, was arrested Monday and charged with motor vehicle theft.

A tan 2001 Chevy Tahoe was reported stolen from the Bonita Lakes Mall area Sept. 23.

Neal is also charged with grand larceny of the Meridian High School Wildcat mascot costume,

The costume was later turned into MHS authorities by a parent of a Meridian School District student.

The vehicle was recovered undamaged a few days after the mascot was returned to Meridian High.

Neal's bond was set at $20,000 for each of the charges (Motor vehicle theft and Grand Larceny) totaling $40,000.

Both charges against Neal will be presented to the first grand jury to convene in 2010.

it will never make it to court. The charge of the costume is not going to be valid. he stole the car and what was in it.. only one count duh....what he did was wrong and with him retruning it unharmed I will be looking it to be reduced to joy riding. bond will be reduced and he will be out after sitting in jail since he does not know any jusges personnally

The difference could be the value of the property. Even a used Tahoe could be valued at $10,000, for instance.

I don't think that`s right. One, I don't argee with them putting him on a bond. What's the difference between him taking the mascot and the Clarksdale students stealing the MacDonald's mascot. They were not punish. The public thought that it was funny and they were "kids" having fun. Why weren't they placed on a bond? Is Justice really fair? I think not!
