What does it really mean to live in Mississippi? One things for sure, high school football is a part of Mississippi living. As Vicky Hood, Meridian High School's prinicipal put it, teams are in it to win it.

"Of course everytime we get on the field it's a big game for probably the opposing team. For us, we aspire to beat everybody," said Hood.

And winning is what Meridian High School and Oak Grove are hoping to do during this Friday's Cellular South Y'all Versus Us Football game. The game will feature professional skydivers, aerial video, and a giant jumbotron video board. With all of the excitement surrounding the game, Meridian Coach, Larry Weems and Oak Grove Coach, Nevil Barr, both said they will treat it like any other game to stay focused.

"Business as usual. Our practices are the same. We have a routine we stick with every week in our preparation and that hasn't changed this week," said Weems.

"Really, we've conducted just like we would any other ball game and approached it to just be prepared on all three phases of the game. It comes down to how well we play Friday night," said Barr.

For the Oak Grove Football Team and the Meridian Football Team, this game is more than important. It's just as significant for the communities as well. Annie McMillan of Hattiesburg's Area Development Partnership said the communities play a great role in the success of athlets and all students.

"The passion to support our local schools go hand-in-hand with the overall committment and the overall support of our communities well-being and great quality of life for all of our citizens," said McMillan.

So for the players, the cheerleaders, and the entire Meridian/Oak Grove communities, Friday should continue the heated rivalry. Hood expects nothing but a great game.

"It's a tremendous game...always," said Hood.
