Two Students Expelled over Gun Incident

The Meridian School Board voted Tuesday night to expel two students who allegedly had a gun or knowledge of a gun on campus at Meridian High School.

The Meridian School Board voted Tuesday night to expel two students who allegedly had a gun or knowledge of a gun on campus at Meridian High School.

17-year-old high Kmondrae Daevon Curry was charged by police as an adult for possession of a weapon on campus Oct. 19. The other student still has juvenile status. His name was not released by authorities.

The board voted to expel both teens through the end of the current school year.

School superintendent Charlie Kent said both would be considered for re-enrollment next year, including the possibility of attending the alternative school and a GED program.

Police say the charge against Curry will be presented to the Lauderdale County grand jury in March.

The behavior starts at home. What needs to be done is that parents need to be made accountable for what their children do. Fine these parents put them in jail or something. If God and discipline had not been taken out of schools they would not be in the shape they are in now.

Please do not make this a race issue. Some white students do drugs and have weapons and don't get caught. AA's as you call African Americans are not the only ones that have multiple babies by multiple men. That is such a racist statement. Why can't you just state that something needs to be done to correct the wrongness in society and in the community without making it a racial issue? African Americans are not the only ethnic group that has rotten apples. Every ethnic group has some rotten apples. Oh, are there only African Americans in jail? You need a reality check! Who said the fourth grade chid was African American? Do you know about the situation? You must be a racist to assume that the child is African American! Margaret, from what I hear West Lauderdale is not all that it is promoted to be. You all think you have a private school, just like some of the teachers at a city school. There are the same problems at some of the county schools as in the city... they are just hidden well!

Margaret, It isnt Vicky Hood fault these kids bringing guns to school. She did her job by calling the police and Give me a break, you sound beyond stupidity. I actually feel sorry for you. I known many white kids smoking weed out in the parking lot at school,because their parents allow them to do it at home.Your comment holds no merit.
