Lake Elementary School Friday celebrated joining Project Fit America.

It's the only campus in the Scott County School District to get a $26,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation grant.

The money was used to build a fitness area. School officials say they hope to see the benefits in better health for students.

"We consider it an above-ground weight room, if you will, because the main things that this equipment focuses on is upper body strength, lower body strength, flexibility, coordination, things like that," said P.E. instructor Rebecca Gentry. "These are things that a lot of kids don't get to work on, because of video games, they don't get to get out and exercise a lot. So this equipment provides an opportunity for them to focus on a lot of areas that they don't normally get to work on."

Gentry said she would like to see children who can only do one pull-up now get to the point of doing at least five or six by the end of the school year.
