Art instructor Janet Trest said she hopes the mural is a learning tool for children and adults to better understand the sacrifices made and being made for freedom.
"It has family heroes from the children they have collected and from our community, from the teaching staff as well," said Trest. "Our community gave us a lot of photographs to add to our collage. There are depictions from the Revolutionary War to the present conflict, with illustrations the children have designed on the front."
Trest said kindergarten through third grade made an autograph board on the back of the mural for service people or their relatives to sign.
Trest said she hopes the mural will be displayed publicly on appropriate holidays.
