Ole Miss to Limit Access to Colonel Reb Image

Colonel Reb could soon become a collector's item as the University of Mississippi moves to further reduce its old mascot's visibility by limiting its image on merchandise.

The university has asked Collegiate Licensing Company to place Colonel Reb in its College Vault Program. There, he'll join other university emblems, mascots and images from around the country that are regarded as historical trademarks that are only produced for special or commemorative events.

Ole Miss holds the trademark for Colonel Reb, the caricature of an Old South gentleman who was the school's mascot for decades before he was dropped in 2003.

The school's director of contractual services, Clay Jones, said the move helps make way for the new mascot that will be chosen by students in coming months.

You rednecks should get real. If you are to continue to financially benefit off the backs of the sideway hat wearing, saggin pants wearing, gold teeth shining brothers & sisters who play sports (new slavery) for you; the least you could do is not insult them by displaying a flag, revealing when you were making money off them the WAY!

To "Paw Paw"---That thing you said about Our Mississippi Flag---they've already outlawed the "Rebel Flag" at the games,it has been changed to display a big M on the flag inplace of the traditional "stars and bars" the Rebel Battle Flag plus just a few years ago the State Flag was under attack, there was a vote taken and the new ideas for a new look were defeated---Look for this attack to continue until there is a new Mississippi State Flag--"They" will never stop---sad but true

This is absolutely insane.. here it is people.. you know what Ole Miss stands for when you choose to attend college there, therefore if the rebel flag, colonel reb or dixie bothers you then DONT ______ GO! i am sick and tired of the crying of a few effecting the many. im not even an ole miss fan but this goes way past that, this is about our southern heritage. i guess they should go with a mascot who wears his hat sideways, his pants down around his knees and a mouth full of gold teeth. maybe then the "offended" will get their way. get a life and deal with the fact you live in the South or do us all a favor and get the heck out!

A few weeks back I suggested that since The University of Mississippi was slowly losing its history and heritage and identity--just do away with Ole Miss and let it become an off campus branch of Jackson State----that should satisify the "PC" group

Just one more thing that has become "POLITICALLY INCORRECT" in these present times--COLONEL REB---REST IN PEACE----We maybe can get a "bebop break dancer"---like those on Burbon Street in New Orleans---to roll around on the side lines--That would really throw out a great image--GO home boyz
