No Changes to MPS Dress Code

Meridian Public School District says there will be no changes to the Uniform Dress Code policy for the 2010-2011 school year.

The district provided a copy of its dress code which appears below.

District Colors
Tops: Royal “Wildcat” Blue and/or White
Bottoms: Khaki/Tan, Navy Blue and/or Black

School colors:
Red-Crestwood, Poplar Springs, West Hills
Maroon-Harris, Magnolia, Northwest
Hunter Green-Oakland Heights
Kelly Green-Parkview
Royal Blue-Carver, Meridian High

Tops
Polo style shirt – 2 or 3 buttons only
Short or long sleeved
If a t-shirt is worn under the polo shirt, it must be white, royal blue, or a school color
Must be tucked in at all times for all students
Only school logos are allowed/no name brand logos

Bottoms
Pleated or flat front (Trouser style)
No designs/decorations/logos/tags (Ex. Dickies labels must be removed)
Shorts, skirts, skorts, and capris – minimum length is 4 inches above the knee and pleated or flat front only
Jumpers will be worn by PreK-5th Grade students only (black, navy blue, or khaki) with polo shirts worn underneath
No cargo, corduroy, or denim
Sagging and oversized clothing is not allowed

Jackets/Coats
Must be waist length
Heavy coats can be any color, but are not worn in the classroom all day
Lightweight jackets/hooded pullovers/buttoned sweaters must be in uniform colors and may be worn in the classroom all day
Only school logo is allowed on front/plain on the back
No trench coats or non-hooded sweatshirts can be worn

Belts
Black or brown with standard buckle
Must be worn if bottoms have belt loops

Shoes
Required at all times and must be worn as designed
Must be tied or Velcro
No shower shoes, rubber shoes, house-shoes, stilettos, or snow-boots will be allowed
No loud or fluorescent colors for socks/shoes
Should be appropriate for safe participation in all school activities

Nothing in this policy shall be constituted to preempt the authority of the principal to act contrary to statements contained herein in specific cases when, in his/her opinion, a student is attempting to use this policy to disrupt the educational process or the safe and orderly climate of the school.
