Civitan Reaches Out to Young People

Junior Civitan clubs are being brought to Lauderdale County high schools.

The Meridian First Ladies Civitan Club and Meridian Civitan Club are sponsoring groups at Northeast High School, Meridian High, and West Lauderdale. Officials say the northeast group should get its charter in October.

"These junior Civitans are our leaders of tomorrow," said Barbara Holyfield, president of Meridian First Ladies Civitan Club and governor of the Magnolia District. "So we need to get behind them and support them and get these clubs going, because these are great young people in Meridian ."

Meridian First Ladies Civitan Club hosted the president of Civitan International, Michael Brown, at its Monday meeting.

Civitan promotes community service with a special emphasis on helping people with brain disorders and developmental disabilities.
