The Auburn University Board of Trustees has approved tuition increases beginning this fall for its main and Montgomery campuses.

The Opelika-Auburn News reports the board approved on Friday an 8 percent increase for all students on its main campus. Tuition will increase 8 percent for undergraduates and 9 percent for graduate students at Auburn University at Montgomery.

State appropriations to the university have been declining for years, and a further 5 percent reduction is expected for fiscal year 2013.

A $200 propriation fee that resulted from declining state appropriations will also continue for students at the main campus.

Auburn University's chief financial officer Don Large says even with the increases, both school's tuition rates remain mid-point when compared with peer universities.
