Second grade classes at T.J. Harris Elementary School were treated to art activities courtesy of the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art in Laurel and the story telling of Terrence Roberts.
Roberts shared African folk tales, and in conjunction with that, the children designed their own African masks.
A grant from the Phil Hardin Foundation made the visit possible.
"A lot of times they don't get to do art and they don't get to have different activities like the story telling without help from outside organizations like the museum.," said Angie King, education and outreach coordinator for the museum. "And we decided to focus on this because we have an African-American show at the museum right now called 'Southern Journeys'."
King says one of the artists featured in the Lauren Rogers exhibit did a lot of art work in Africa utilizing masks.
