Link Up Concert

The Link Up concert is a partnership that the Meridian Symphony Orchestra has with Carnegie Hall. Organizers call it music coming to life.

Organizers say the students learned about much more than music.

"Music has shown to contribute to so many different factors of learning and cognitive development and contributes wonderful things that a child's mind can really open up to," said Natella Boulton, executive director of the MSO Association.

Leading up to the concert, the students studied a special music curriculum. Friday they were able to actually perform with the orchestra by playing recorders that were donated by the Riley Foundation.

"The programs get more creative every year and we see that the teachers are excited every year to be able to bring this to the fourth grade students," Boulton said.

"As a music teacher, I think music is all around.," said Candace Cannon of Quitman Upper Elementary School. "It's a universal language. I think it's just great that they be able to do this."

In the end organizers say their hope is that the students don't just walk away with a memory, but instead also a lifelong love for music.

This year 21 public and private schools participated in Link Up.
