Newton High School has been fined $500.00 and must forfeit wins in which an ineligible student played.
The Mississippi High School Activities Association has found that Newton High School principal, Sherrod Miller, allowed a student from Meridian to come to school with him every day and play basketball.
MHSAA said the ineligible student had to be removed from the team immediately. The boys' basketball team has been placed on probation through the end of the regular season, Feb. 4, 2012.
Newton school officials say they are not fighting the ruling. But they said they will not comment on the job status of Miller, calling that a personnel issue.
