MPS Alters School Uniform Policy

The new policy for Meridian Public School District students will require students to wear the same uniform at every school.

Tops will be royal blue and white polo shirts. Bottoms will be khaki or black.

In the past, individual schools had their own colors.

School officials say they hope the change will make the uniform more simple for parents and students.

District officials will be educating the public about the change between now and the start of school.

I think it's stupid with the economy the way it is for there even to be a school uniform needed. Make the kids wear a belt with the shirt tucked in. Some of the teachers worry more about the uniforms the kids are wearing instead of teaching them and the only reason they don't won't cell phones in the school is so the students can't text what's happening at the school. The teachers can brake the rules but not the students. Double standards.

The changing of uniform do not help me. I have 2 girls that will have clothes that can not be used for school. Navy pants are more dominant than black. I don't want to buy clothes every year. I had just bought before last school year was out. Girls have an issue certain times of the month. They should have two dark colors. Everyone can't go out and do new coats as well. I feel to much on clothes and not on what parents can afford to spend. Economy is out of whack and I didn't plan on buying school clothes. I dont qualify for assistance but who cares about my financial situation. Then I have to pay for school lunch. Give us single working mothers a break.

My kid went to public school up north, where they had no uniform. And, weirdest thing, no one cared about the clothing, the kids went, behaved and there were no problems. Uniforms are not enforcement to make kids learn. That's a copout. Good parenting and good schools are all you need.

You can wear your uniform if you wish... The future leaders of Mississippi are going to private schools. Their parents love them.

What about the kids that had school colors they could have worn for another year? I can understand the change but why no transition period? As far as making all kids equal, that is a joke. While they might be the same color any kid tell the difference between a dollar store uniform and one fron a high end store. Unless uniforms have to come from the same supplier to make eveything truley equal it's all window dressing.

Have you people ever gone online and looked at school pictures from the communist countries? Every kid dressed the same in their little uniforms. Seems like where this country is headed. A little at a time.

My kids don't by their uniforms I do, My kids don't have the final say >>> I do. If some parents would actually involve themselves in what threir kids are doing then there would be less trouble with the uniform policy. AND That is every School District that has a uniform dress code !

I see the students that violate the policy and the parents are to blame not the district...Send them home and maybe they can get it right

Another joke. MPS does not have an uniform. What is the meaning of the word UNI-FORM?... All the countries that have uniform they have ONLY ONE because they understand the word UNI-FORM. When I was in Jupiter, I used light blue shirt, navy blue pants, black socks, black shoes, and brown belt. When I was in my senior year I had to use a tied.... Let's get serious about this joke of uniform.
