Lauderdale County, Miss.
Two Lauderdale County students won high honors for their participation in a year-long stock market game and essay competition.
Paxton Powell placed first in the middle school division for the state of Mississippi. Daneel Konnar placed first in the elementary division.
Both wrote winning essays that used their critical thinking skills to show how they applied their economic knowledge during the stock market game.
"I'm really looking forward to doing it in the future, like investing in stocks and all that," said Konnar.
"It showed us how real-life deals could be, such as when you get older, your work," said Powell.
Both students will receive certificates and a $100 cash prize for their winning essays.
This is the first time Northeast Middle School has had two state winners.
