Operton Gets Royal Treatment

Rosalind Operton learned a couple of weeks ago that she was Meridian Public Schools' Administrator of the Year.

But she got a real surprise Friday when students at her school, Oakland Heights Elementary, congratulated her in their own special way.

Staff found a way to keep her off campus until the children could get lined up outside and treat her like a queen.

"i always tell them every day that there is a king in them and that they can do anything," said Operton. "I saw that. And then i saw the sign that said congratulations administrator of the year. And it just touched my heart, because of all the hard work that is done here. It's really not mine; it's the children and the teachers."

Operton praised parents, who also contribute, and she gave credit to Barbara Young, who she describes as her 'right hand' at Oakland Heights.
