The 2nd Annual Parent Leadership Institute is going on this weekend in Meridian.
Parents for Public Schools created this idea for parents and others to receive training so they can help improve schools in their communities.
Parent coach Becky Glover says public schools impact everybody in the community in multiple ways, not just the families whose children attend public school.
"If you're going to address problems, you need to know what the facts are, and data is where you can always find facts," said Glover. "Data tells you where the problem is. It doesn't tell you why the problem exists."
Glover says that comes from being involved.
Parents for Public Schools says there's a connection between what happens in your community and what happens in your schools.
The current group has representatives from seven Mississippi counties.
