Reading Fairs Augment Learning

Students at West Lauderdale Middle School participated in the annual reading fair this week.

Over 100 entries were submitted. Students read a book and then make a poster board project to show and explain the book's meaning and what they learned.

School principal, Linda Dulaney, says the retention rate is much higher for students who bring the book to life in this way.

"It's a great way for the students to take everything they learn in our English/language arts classes and put it into one project," said Dulaney. "Very hands on and a lot of application of what they've learned and knowledge goes into making these projects."

The winners in grades 5-8 from each school will go on to compete with other students at the district reading fair later this month.
