Lamar School's Shannon Sellers won the Lauderdale County Spelling Bee.
After dozens of rounds, the seventh grade student emerged the winner by correctly spelling the word
'giantesque'. It means 'having the characteristics of a giant'.
"Last year, I got second," said Sellers. "And this year it's so great to win. It's so great to be able to compete."
One of Sellers' classmates, Anna Kate Fahey, was runner-up.
Students from Lamar and Lauderdale County schools as well as homeschooled students, competed in the bee.
The statewide spelling bee is Mar. 19 in Jackson.
