Signs Draw Attention to Honor Roll Students

Meridian, Miss. The Meridian Public School District and the city of Meridian announced a new way for students to be recognized in the community.

Students in the district who have made the honor roll for this semester will be given signs that can be placed in their front yards.

Local business owners helped raise more than $10,000 so 2500 students across the district could have these signs.

The superintendent and mayor said they see this as a way to promote student achievement and parental involvement.

"Letting the students be known throughout their community for what they are doing academically will do a world of wonders for our kids in the classroom and in our schools," said Dr. Alvin Taylor.

"Work for this sign and believe in your child, and we expect great things out of each student in the Meridian Public School District," said Mayor Bland.

The signs have been distributed to the schools, and parents and students should have them by Friday.
