Jackson, Miss. Mississippi's state board of education has chosen former Washington., D.C., schools administrator, Dr. Carey Wright, as superintendent of education.
Wright was the only woman among five finalists who interviewed Tuesday.

She served previously as associate superintendent of Montgomery County, Maryland, schools.
Lynn House has been serving as interim superintendent since Tom Burnham's retirement in July 2012.
