Tougaloo President Visits MHS

Dr. Beverly Hogan was joined by a delegation from Tougaloo College in a tour of Meridian High School. This is the second college or university president to tour the school this year.

MHS principal Victor Hubbard says the purpose of the tours is two-fold: to find out what Meridian High has to offer and to let students know what Tougaloo College has to offer them.

"If we can begin to build this kind of education connection, our students will come out of our secondary institutions so much better prepared for college work," Dr. Hogan said.

That's why Hubbard says the school's administration decided to embark on something different this year, by formally inviting college and university presidents to the campus for a personal tour.

"We've also invited Mississippi State and we'll have tour with them when school starts back in the fall," Hubbard said. "We've also invited Belhaven. We just want to have a variety of colleges and university presidents come here to see what we're offering. We want every student to learn that college is an available option and it's more critical now than ever."

With outstanding accomplishments in an array of sports, Hubbard says Meridian High is also on track to succeed in the area that's most important.

"And you will be reading about us in months to come, because we are going to move from good to great in our academics," said Hubbard.
