We're down to the final two spots remaining on this year's All Scholastic Sports Team roster. Our 11th addition is the first Rebel to make the cut in our 21 years as today's featured student athlete is the first from Heidelberg Academy to make the team.
After three years of softball at Heidelberg Academy, Kelsey Rogers knows how to handle a ball and good grades. She's second in her class all while being selected an MAIS All-Star and First Team All-District.
Kelsey Rogers, All Scholastic Sports Team - Heidelberg Academy: "I've been playing since I was six and it's just something that I love to do and I've always done it."
Nancy Brashier, Softball Coach - Heidelberg Academy: "Good leader. Good attitude. Never missed practice. Always there early. Always there later. Always helped the coach pick up."
Rogers is a member of the National Honor Society and yearbook staff. She was voted "Most Likely to Succeed" by her classmates but her teachers feel the same way.
James Ducker, Trig & Pre-Cal Teacher - Heidelberg Academy: "She'll be a success in whatever she does. She's just that type of person. She doesn't let up until she understands the material and it doesn't take very long for that to happen anyway."
Rogers has already signed a full scholarship to play softball at Holmes Community College. After two years she hopes to continue playing at the college level and once she's done with school, Rogers won't be done with softball.
Kelsey Rogers, All Scholastic Sports Team - Heidelberg Academy: "After that, I'd like to be a coach somewhere. Softball has been pretty much my whole life and I'd like to continue doing that."
With Rogers help, the Lady Rebels finished with an overall record of 27 and 10 in 2012. They won their district and ended the season as South State runner-up. When all was said and done, Heidelberg Academy was number four in the state.
