After three months of announcing the members of our All Scholastic Sports Team, we finally complete the 12-man roster with a student athlete out of Butler, Alabama. Here's more on the senior who seems to give many Lady Saints day dreams.
A quadruple threat in sports, Slade Johnston juggles athletics and academics like a pro. Baseball, basketball, football and track; there's no stopping this senior at Patrician Academy... Especially not since sports give him motivation.
Slade Johnston, All Scholastic Sports Team - Patrician Academy : "It really motivated me. I mean, gives me something to do, something that I love and I don't know, I just enjoy playing, getting out there and just having fun with everybody and working with, working as a team."
Johnston sure knows what it takes to work as a team since he's won a football state championship at P.A. The saints were recognized as division three national champs by the National Private School Athletic Association. He was also featured at the AISA football All-Star game.
Jonathan Lindsey, Head Coach (Football/Baseball) - Patrician Academy: "In football, he was our go-to guy. When we needed one or two yards, I mean, he was our go-to guy, to give him the ball. We wanted him to have the ball every, every chance we could."
This football state champion is third is his class. He's the National Honors Society vice president and a member of the National BETA Club... But let's not forget, his "who's who senior class most handsome and best smile" awards. "
Melynda Cowan, Teacher (Honors English) - Patrician Academy: "A lot of little girls probably dream that, my, my daughter included, they all have crushes on Slade and, and the young kids too. He spends a lot of time on the playground with them and he teaches them."
During his spare time, Johnston coaches P.A. Elementary students. He'll be attending Alabama next year where he plans to pursue a degree in pharmacy.
