Only six games into his stint as head football coach, Andrew Varner has stepped down at Southern Choctaw.
Varner, who also served as athletic director, said family needs were behind his resignation.
During his tenure, the Indians won only two games, including a homecoming victory last week.
He replaced Larry Boykin, who built a powerhouse at Southern Choctaw by winning state championships in 1998, 1999, and 2002.
The Indians will host defending AA state champion Leroy Friday night with Charles Chaney likely serving as the interim head coach.
